6 Dangerous Garage Door Components

**Never Remove Any of the Listed Components Below- They are under Extreme Tension**

Wood anchor block – the wood anchor block keeps the spring anchor bracket securely fastened to the wall.

Spring anchor- this part secures the anchor cone from the spring to the wall so the springs will hold tension. Removing this component while under tension will have the effect of sticking your hand in front of a saw blade.  If your spring anchor is not securely fastened to the wall we can repair it for you.

Winding cone- the winding cone is turned with a special tool several times to put the correct amount of tension on the spring.  It is then tightened down to hold the tension. *** Never remove the bolts that secure the winding cone to the steel tube – ever…

Securing nuts and bolts- these are also an item you should never adjust- they hold the anchor cone to spring anchor. Have you ever placed a paper clip on a rubber band and twisted it up then let it go?

Removing the anchor cone is basically the same principle except that the anchor cone can take a finger off break your hand.

Cable drums – the cable drums are equally as dangerous, cutting or removing them can cause them to violently lash out causing severe facial injuries.  , call a professional for service if you have cables that are frayed or broken.

Bottom brackets – the bottom bracket transfers the tension of the spring to the bottom of the door making it almost effortless to raise the door. Keep in mind that the smallest 8 x 7 garage door weighs  at least 130lbs and the small torsion spring is wound with enough tension to raise all of this weight.

“Removing the Brackets will cause an explosive release of this wound up tension causing the bottom bracket to flail about wildly striking anything in its path  Bottom brackets are responsible for several facial injuries , these injuries usually occur  around the facial area and could easily take out and eye fracture a jaw or even cause death.”
