Finger Crushing hazards – is your family at risk?

Many New garage doors still use dangerous tongue and groove, and ship lap section joints. The problem is most of these doors offer no protection against finger crushing hazards.

There are garage doors offered by manufacturers that offer pinch proof sections at an extra charge putting this much needed safety feature out of reach for most home owners.

However, there is one manufacturer who offers this feature on 99% of their residential garage doors at no additional charge plus several others much needed safety features.

According to reports received by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 60 children between the ages of 2 and 14 have been trapped and killed under automatic garage doors since March 1982. The federal agency has also received reports of many other children who have suffered brain damage or other serious injuries when a garage door fell on them.

The CPSC recommends that for the safe operation of a garage door it must be "balanced." What this means is that the door will stay in place when stopped in any partially opened position. An "unbalanced" garage door could unexpectedly crash to the floor possibly striking someone under the open door.

Most traditional designed garage doors offer no protection against free falling garage doors due to failed cables or spring systems.

99 % of new garage door on the market still use dangerous torsion spring counter balance systems. All but two manufacturers offer counter balance systems with a safe anti- drop feature.

Slipped Cables and Thrown Cables- Door getting stuck on the way down

A slipped cable is a common problem, usually caused by pushing the garage door open too hard. This causes that garage door to go up too far allowing one cable to fall of the cable drum.  When you try to close the garage door you end up with a door that stars to close unevenly due to the uneven spring tension caused by the slipped or thrown cable.

A Home Owners Desperate mistake – Do it Yourself nightmare

Tamper proof bottom brackets help to deter home owners from servicing their jammed garage doors. If your garage door get stuck and becomes jammed on one side, please don’t attempt to repair it yourself. The injury that you will sustain will cost you a lot more than a service call.

I don’t know how many close friends and customers I personally know of who have sustained serious injuries due to removing the bottom bracket which hold the tensioned cable from the garage door counter balance system.

“It seemed like the most logical thing to do” is what most people say when their garage door becomes jammed in the tracks and won’t come down.

So they try to take off the bottom brackets and unleash a terrible force of flailing garage door parts- improperly removed  bottom brackets usually find their way to the face of the unsuspecting do it yourselfers. The lucky ones usually end up with stitches on the face and around the eyes.

“Tamper proof bottom brackets- take these off and you will end up in the hospital. “
